Changing your hosting password

Your hosting password is the one you use to log in to the DirectAdmin control panel. It is not the same as your Client Area password, and not the same as your e-mail passwords.

There are two ways to change it.

From the Client Area

This works even if you cannot log in to the panel.

  1. Log in to the Client Area.
  2. Open Services and click your hosting package.
  3. In the service menu, choose Change Password.
  4. Enter the new password and confirm.

The change is applied to the server automatically.

From DirectAdmin

If you are already logged in to the panel:

  1. Log in — see DirectAdmin access.
  2. Click your username in the top right corner.
  3. Choose Change Password.
  4. Enter the current password, then the new one twice, and confirm.

Choosing a good password

The panel requires a strong password and shows its strength as you type. Use at least 12 characters mixing upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols, and do not reuse a password from another service.

If you have forgotten the password

Use the Client Area method above — it does not ask for the old password.

If you cannot get into the Client Area either, open a ticket and we will reset the access.

What the change affects

Changing the panel password does not change:

  • your e-mail account passwords;
  • the passwords of additional FTP accounts;
  • your Client Area password.

It changes access to the control panel and to FTP for the main account, which share the same username.
